Frequency Scanners have been gaining popularity among consumers. Controls found in a Radio Scanner can vary depending on the brand but, most of them practically have the following: WX button, Numeric keypad, Volume, Squelch, Search button, Scan button, Manual button, Lockout button, and Delay button.

The WX button can start a mini-scan of nationwide NOAA weather broadcast reports. The numeric keypad, on the other hand, is used for manually entering the numbers of a certain frequency. The volume button obviously increases or decreases the loudness of the gadget's audio.

Keeping the device soundless or mute for a certain period of time is the job of the Squelch button while, the scan button's job is to send a request to the receiver for it to continually search for frequencies until it finds one with an on-going transmission. The Search button is for users who doesn't know a certain frequency in a given area. The receiver, in this process, will scan frequency banks on a continuous loop. The manual button lets the users manually access the frequencies stored in the scanner.

The lock out button allows the users to temporarily disable the scanner from stopping on a stored frequency while, the delay button allows the user to install a certain frequency before moving to the next one.
